AVK Gulf was selected as the complete solution provider for establishing water infrastructure in a new industrial area in Al-Shadadiya, Kuwait and supplied 1,150 fire hydrants and more than 2,000 valves for the project.
Securing sufficient infrastructure
In Kuwait, new industrial areas are established to relocate existing industries from densely populated areas. The first of several is the Al-Shadadiya Industrial Zone. The new industrial site was undertaken by the Public Authority of Industry (PAI) in Kuwait and aims to attract many industries by providing sufficient infrastructure for future development.
Valves and hydrants for multiple water applications
The zone comprises industrial plots, general services areas, utilities, a technological park and various administrative offices, among other facilities. The new zone covers an extensive area of approximately 4.9 million m2 and with a contract value of 316 mill. USD, the project scope included design, construction and completion of the zone.
AVK supplied valves and hydrants for multiple applications such as drinking water, rainwater, wastewater, industrial wastewater, irrigation and fire protection networks. The products are key components in the wastewater treatment plant, pumping stations for water and irrigation, two elevated water tanks and four underground reservoirs – one for fresh water, one for irrigation and two for water used in fire protection. The irrigation system alone can pump almost one million litres of water per day.

Efficient supply chain
Based on know-how and experience with projects of this size and the ability to supply all valves, fire hydrants and accessories tailored to meet the project requirements, AVK Gulf was selected as the solution provider of the complete valve package.
The primary focus is customer satisfaction, and it was paramount to ensure that the delivered products matched the project specifications, budget and tight time frame. Hence local value engineering solutions were applied to optimise requirements and deliver them within the agreed delivery schedule.
AVK's production facilities in Saudi Arabia proved to be a significant advantage, enabling fast delivery in just 3-4 days by road compared to the standard delivery of 4-6 weeks via sea freight from distant locations. Location close to Kuwait allowed for efficient and timely delivery, meeting the fast-track nature of the project. The streamlined approach not only simplified the sourcing process for the customer, but also ensured compatibility and consistency across the project, making AVK their preferred choice of supplier.
A rigorous inspection process known as the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) was implemented with independent third-party inspection (TPI) agencies at the production facilities in both Saudi Arabia and Anhui, China. This guaranteed that all shipments went through a thorough inspection before being sent to the contruction site and ensured that strict quality standards and project specifications were always met. A Bureau Veritas TPI was appointed to attend in the FAT at the production facility in Saudi Arabia, while a DNV Germanischer Lloyd TPI oversaw the inspection process at the factory in Anhui. These inspections were carried out regularly and provided a robust quality assurance mechanism and built trust with the client.
